US Shipping Board Seth Thomas Clock
Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston CT circa 1925 elegant yellow brass U.S. Shipping Board ship's clock. This clock has a silvered 8 1/2 inch dial with Roman numerals, original spade hands and a smaller Seth Thomas seconds dial. It is fitted in a heavy duty polished cast yellow brass case with a hinged bezel. A Fast-Slow (F-S) adjustment lever is located to the left of numeral "III". The words "U.S. SHIPPING BOARD" appear in a line of indented upper case black letters below the center arbor. The clock, which keeps near perfect time is an outstanding example of a Seth Thomas clock made for the U.S. Shipping Board which was the predecessor to the U.S. Maritime Commission. The U.S. Shipping Board only had a brief life span operating between January, 1917, and 1933 when it was replaced by the U.S. Maritime Commission in 1936. Words "MADE BY SETH THOMAS IN U.S.A." appear in upper case letters below the lower chapter ring.
