Thomas Jones Quintant--SOLD


An unusual smallish  brass lacquered quintant signed Thomas Jones, 62 Charing Cross, London. Thomas Jones apprenticed from 1789 to 1796 to Jesse Ramsden was the most eminent scientific instrument maker of  the day, who declared that Jones was "the most ingenious and the most assiduous" of his many apprentices.

This instrument is  within a shaped brass bound mahogany case with 4 telescopes and two additional filters for viewing. It retains most of its original lacquered varnish,
