Silk work pictures were embroidered by Japanese men for visiting sailors from about 1885 through 1938. These souvenirs were brought home commemorating the sailor's voyage to the Orient.
This silk features a three dimensional American Eagle hovering over an American Shield while grasping a naval anchor. Below is an American flag in full display with arrows and olive branches in view. The blue banner sash reads: E Pluribus Unum. The entire embroidery is on a black silk background, matted and framed.
