H.G. Cordes Life Saving Cannon circa 1860--SOLD


Heavy bronze German line throwing gun/mortar , Circa 1860.  a 3 1/8 inch bore, 26 1/2 inch overall length and  7 1/2 inches in diameter at the breach on what appears to be its original wood carriage. The carriage is 29 inches long with two wooden wheels mounted at the front. Nicely marked on the top of the 9 1/2 inch reinforcing band where the trunnions are mounted:  Leinenwurfmoser/kal 80/ H.G.Cordes/Wesermunde/G. It was used for throwing a line to make a connection to a stranded ship with the intention of rescuing ship wrecked sailors lives.

Overall perfect untouched condition and a very attractive and impressive lifesaving bronze gun.
