Diminutive Sextant signed G.E. Butler
English miniature sextant manufactured for the American market and sold by George E. Butler of San Francisco. Early 20th century, this Butler sextant with index arm of 5 3/4 inches and silvered scale reading to 150 degrees . Magnifier arm has a retractable eyepiece and the case includes three brass site tubes, one filter and an adjustment tool all with original lacquered finish. The mahogany case measures 6 3/4 in by 7 1/8 in and 3 1/4 inches tall. Inside the box is stamped Captain Madison and on the bottom of the box is written Captain C. Madison and an address in San Francisco. George Butler sold maritime equipment in San Francisco beginning in the late 19th century.
