Chelsea 8 1/2 " Pilot house clock from the ferryboat Angel Island. The matching serial number on the case and movement dates the clock from 1915-1919. Original face and case condition is great for its age. Time only. The ferryboat Angel Island launched for service in 1911 and her primary function was to take people from the main land of San Francisco to the docks of Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay. It carried many people for immigration purposes, workers and soldiers to its destination. It is unknown what became of the ferryboat after the late 1930's. Angel Island is probably best known as the home of the Angel Island Immigration Station. The station, which operated from 1910 to 1940, was the main entry point into the United States for people arriving from the Pacific routes. More than one million people were processed at the station; most were allowed to enter the United States immediately and did not spend much, if any, time on the island.
