Chelsea 10" Dial Ship's Bell Clock SOLD
Chelsea 10" Dial Ships Bell Clock , sold by retailer A. Stowell & Co, Inc of Boston, Mass. Movement and case serial number 16288 dates the clock from 1900-1904. The original surface is silvered, engraved with wax filled Roman numerals. There is an engraving of "Felicitations" along the top rim. Along the bottom is "June 30-July5, 1905".
The top portion of the clock is engraved: "Norman H. White, from W.Dub Brookings, D.D. Cassidy, Jr, Paul Crocker, R.W. Harrison". From our research , all of these men attended Harvard class of 1895. This was probably a congratulatory gift to Norman H. White on his promotion at the Brookline National Bank. Norman Hill White served in the MA Legislature from 1907-1911. Also chaired committees on Education, Ways and Means, Rules and Metropolitan Affairs. Walter DuBois Brookings worked in the lumber industry in CA. David Demarest Cassidy, Jr worked in the textiles industry in New York. Paul Crocker was a locomotive master with the railroads of Boston and Maine. Robert Waite Harrison practiced law and became Asst. D.A. of San Francisco. Clock stand not included.
